Valve pushed out a brand new update for Proton Experimental on July 28th – making more Windows games run well on SteamOS / Linux systems. In case you missed our other recent article, Valve also put up a Proton 11.0-2 Release Candidate for testing.
Proton Experimental is like their testing ground for future stable numbered version Proton updates. You can install any version of Proton by just searching for “Proton” in your Steam Library. Check out the GamingOnLinux Guide to all the different Proton versions if you’re confused.
All the changes are listed below.
- Welcome to Elderfield Demo
- The Rabbit’s Scroll
- Blair Witch VR
- Elisa: The Innkeeper – Prequel
Welcome to Elderfield looks like it could be an interesting one – “a cozy horror RPG where the abnormal is normal, the townsfolk are odd, the eldritch beings watch over you and the local news reports seem stranger by the day”. Like a creepier Stardew Valley.
- Improved controller support for Far Cry New Dawn, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Split/Second when Steam Input is used.
- Fixed Far Cry New Dawn showing GPU warning with AMD GPUs.
- Fixed Squad not starting when set to non-English locale.
- Fixed Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara not displaying available resolution correctly on some setups.
- Fixed Dark and Darker sometimes hanging on start.
- Improved reliability of controller hotplug.
- Added Steamworks SDK 1.65 support.
- Fixed Proton 11 regressions:
- The Talos Principle and The Talos Principle VR should no longer incorrectly show the login window on launch.
- Awakened PoE Trade should be able to read clipboard set by Proton reliably again.
Bringing support for the Steamworks SDK 1.65 is pretty necessary too since that included improvements for developers running their games across Steam Machine, Steam Frame and Steam Deck.
The previous update for Proton Experimental was back on July 16th.
