Wine 11.16 brings more ARM64 support improvements

The Wine 11.16 development release is officially out now bringing further enhancements to running Windows games / apps on Linux. With this release there’s been more of a focus on ARM64 support improvements!

More info – Wine is one of the main bits of software that powers Valve’s incredible Proton (along with DXVK and VKD3D-Proton)! Enabling tens of thousands of games to run on SteamOS / Steam Deck / Steam Machine and hopefully soon the Steam Frame.

highlights of wine 11.16

  • Mono engine updated to version 11.3.0, including ARM64 support.

  • Hardware video decoding using VA-API.

  • Improved exception handling on ARM64EC.

  • Various bug fixes.

There’s 35 noted bug fixes for various types of expected behaviour to match closer to Windows, along with a few fixes to improve games like Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, Star Citizen, Ignition, the Steam app and plenty more.
