Over a decade after the original was released, Until Dawn‘s sequel is finally almost here. It’s planned for January 28, 2027, with pre-orders coming on September 10.
Until Dawn 2 takes place primarily around a ghost hunting YouTube show called Dead True and feature a bunch of young, content-creator protagonists. From the PlayStation blog, we’ve learned that the group starts by exploring a place called Blackwood Sanitorium in the snowy mountains (ah, Blackwood), then later visits HorrorCon, where they learn about a terrible supernatural incident. This leads them to visit a South Pacific Island where the usual Until Dawn nonsense goes on. It seems like it will be gruesome, and that people (and possibly a chicken) will die.
Like its predecessor, Until Dawn 2 will ask players to make choices and respond to situations all the different characters are thrown into, with player choice impacting the outcome of the story and who lives and who dies. In Until Dawn, there were ways to guide the story so that all characters lived, or all died, or so that all sorts of other combinations had occurred by the end. Until Dawn had a strict autosave so that players would never “Game Over” but would have to live with the consequences of their actions or inactions, and we can assume Until Dawn 2 will have something of the same.
It does seem like there’s one returning character from Until Dawn, the psychiatrist Dr. Hill, played by Peter Stormare. Pre-order editions of the game will come with additional cosmetic content specific to his character. No hints yet as to what his role will be here, but in Until Dawn he appeared between chapters in what seemed to be therapy sessions to question the player on their decisions. It seems like he could serve the same role here.
