“Almost everything can be interacted with,” LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino said during today’s LEVEL-5 Vision 2026 II Dream broadcast. “You can turn objects into Mononoke, ghostly creatures that join your party, soften objects and use them like trampolines, or even transform them into dungeons to explore. Explanations likely wouldn’t do it justice, so let’s just see it in action.”
During a gameplay showcase, Hino explained, “Use Cameron to take pictures of objects with strong souls, and they’ll come to life as Mononoke. You can befriend the Mononoke you find.
“While exploring the town, you’ll also get a glimpse into the everyday lives of its residents.
“Searching the area has revealed something glowing yellow, so let’s go ahead and take a photo of it. Would you believe it? The parasol has turned into a trampoline! We call this Playgroundification. The town is full of fun ways to interact with the environment as you explore. Some Mononoke can only be found under certain conditions, so keep exploring to find them.
“Let’s try searching while holding a Streetlight Soul Key, as it lets you encounter new Mononoke. This calls for another photo!
“And it’s not just parasols. Even hedges can be playgroundified! Explore every nook and cranny for items and Mononoke. Who knows what you’ll find?
“And sometimes, what you photograph even turns into a dungeon, giving you the change to step inside and explore… This time, we actually ended up inside a cake! Let’s get exploring! Dungeons are full of things to discover, just like the town, including treasure chests to open and items to collect.
“And when night falls, the town takes on a whole new look. It’s quite a bit eerier than usual…! Don’t miss the formidable boss battles!
“Battles are fought to pumping dance music, making for a surprisingly fun and unique experience. Keep an eye out for their unique special moves, too.
“With your Mononke companions by your side, you’ll take on the evil company known as De Ville Corp. All kinds of things in this world can spark new adventures, or even become power you can wield in battle.”
LEVEL-5 is also planning a major line of toys and merchandise as part of a Holy Horror Mansion cross-media project, which it will unveil at a dedicated cross-media presentation to be held at a later date. This presentation was originally planned to be held in early 2026, but according to Hino, was delayed “to get the products and timing just right.”
