Game launcher ‘Launchbox’ should get a Linux version in 2027

During their recent celebration event and livestream, the developers of the popular game launcher Launchbox confirmed they are working on a Linux version.

More about it – “LaunchBox was originally built as an attractive frontend for DOSBox, but has long since expanded to support both modern PC games and emulated console platforms. LaunchBox aims to be the one-stop shop for gaming on your computer, for both modern and historical games”.

All the way back in 2018, GamingOnLinux covered their initial interest in bringing it to Linux but that never seemed to really go anywhere. Now, thanks to Valve with SteamOS and the likes of the Steam Deck making Linux a whole lot more popular, they’re confirming they’ve begun working on it and they said they would expect it to release in 2027. They said the plan is “as soon as possible” but that the “more realistic timeline is as soon as we’re proud of it”.
