First-person gothic adventure ‘Night Cart: The Immortal Plague’ is a must for your wishlist

Drive a horse-drawn cart through plague-ridden Transylvania in the first-person gothic adventure Night Cart: The Immortal Plague that sounds rather interesting. Indie developers just keep on making unique looking games, and the atmosphere here looks great.

Night Cart: The Immortal Plague

Speaking to GamingOnLinux over email the developer described it as:

“The best way I can describe the game is a King’s Field IV-like with an open-world structure: heavy first-person combat, obscure discoveries, oppressive atmosphere (due to the plague and a militarized church faction going nuts and purging everything) and minimal hand-holding.

The combat is slow, deliberate first person melee + early firearms, with blocking, parrying, dodging. There is wildlife, plague creatures, gunners, horse riders, knights in armor and of course, bosses.”

Love the sound of it, especially the effect system that allows you to combine potion effects directly with your weapons and general gear. They shared some examples:

  • Ignite a sword with a Fire Bomb and use it to light a pyre that burns creatures (or attracts others to your location).
  • Douse yourself or the pyre with water to extinguish the flames.
  • Infuse bullets or melee weapons with different effects (yes you can create a sword that cuts and then heals or a magic healing bullets. Or give the plague to your targets if you infuse your weapons with the plague effect).
  • Plague spreads from infected creatures and rats and accumulates through exposure.
