One of the most iconic and timeless properties in gaming, Dragon Quest has officially topped 100 million total sales.
This is across all Dragon Quest titles — both mainline and spin-off, including remakes and remasters — dating back to the very first game’s release over four decades ago in 1986.
To mark the achievement, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii offers a heartfelt thanks to fans of the franchise in a new video:
Obviously, very few properties go on to enjoy the kind of longevity that’s come to define Dragon Quest. It’s been a constant across almost every console generation, and it’s never felt the need to fundamentally change its identity.
Indeed, the franchise’s consistency has become a selling point. Especially with regards to the mainline instalments, you know exactly what you’re getting with a new Dragon Quest title, and you also know that it’ll be a high quality role-playing experience packed with charm and charisma.
As it stands, we’re still waiting on the successor to the superb Dragon Quest 11. The long, long-awaited sequel, Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams, was re-revealed back in May of this year, but it’s still going to be quite some time until it’s ready to go.
